Test Your AI Discernment

Why This Matters

AI does not announce its errors. It delivers them fluently, dressed in biblical language, sounding like a wise friend. The danger is not that the AI is wrong. The danger is that it trains you to think a certain way without you noticing.

Each distortion pattern is a way the AI reshapes your plumbline. Learning to name them is the first step of discernment. The Berean surfaces these patterns automatically. This page teaches you what to watch for.

The Five Patterns That Matter Most

These five patterns appear most often and do the most spiritual damage. If you learn only these, you will catch the majority of AI drift.

1. Friction-Avoidance

The AI always picks the softer, more culturally comfortable answer. The wide road is better represented in its training data. It drifts toward it every time.

Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction. — Matthew 7:13

2. Edge-Smoothing

The AI keeps the biblical words but sands off the sharp edge. The verse is accurate. The meaning has been removed.

Woe to those who call evil good and good evil. — Isaiah 5:20

3. Therapeutic Framing

The AI treats spiritual questions as emotional problems to be soothed. "How do you feel?" replaces "What does God say?"

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness. — 2 Timothy 3:16

4. Consensus Drift

The AI navigates toward the majority position. The response feels moderate and inoffensive. That feeling itself is the warning.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind. — Romans 12:2

5. Parasocial Spiritual Bond

The AI positions itself as a friend who is "here for you." It is a simulation of presence. Only the body of Christ can be the body of Christ.

The Three Questions

Before you trust any AI response, ask these three questions. They are the plumbline.

1. Does this soften the hard edge of Scripture?

If the AI makes the narrow gate feel wider, it is smoothing the edge. The truth should challenge you, not just comfort you.

2. Does this treat Scripture as one opinion among many?

"Many Christians believe..." is not a reason to doubt what the church has always taught. The Bible is the plumbline, not one option on a menu.

3. Does this offer comfort without conviction?

Grace is real. But grace is the beginning of the journey, not the whole journey. If the response affirms you without any call to repentance, obedience, or change, the AI has smoothed the gospel.
